Daily practice can at times feel like a burden. Often, a beginning musician feels as if he or she is making little or no progress. This feeling is normal, as musical development is like a savings account—it takes a while to see any growth. Parents need to remind their young musicians that progress is often too slow to recognise. "It doesn't matter if it feels like you're not getting any better. Practice anyway."
The graph below compares perceived progress (the expectation of progress) to actual progress, and can be useful in helping musicians to understand the importance of daily practice.
